Thanksgiving 2010 addition to Carol's collection of wonderful patterns!!!  The caps, modeled by "the Anderson gals" range in size from infant to adult and include several matching scarf and mitten patterns.
Here, in Carol's own words....Caps for the Gals....plus some with matching scarves or mittens
Last year I did "Scandinavian Caps for the Guys" -- that turned out to be a lot of fun, but at Christmastime I got questions from the girls in the family as to just when they would have their turn.  So I began.  First I did the cabled caps, but realized they needed scarves to match.  Not just scarvbes but 'reversible cabled scarves.'  As a knitter I can get a little crazy when I observe anyone wearing a hand knit scarf wrong side out.  I desperately want to help them correct the error, but usually, but not always, manage to restrain myself.  These scarves have no wrong side.
Last year (2010) we had a long winter in Iowa.  That statement translated, means "really good knitting weather."  My ears freeze on winter walks if not properly covered, thus "caps with flaps."  I cringe when I see babies with their ears uncovered in the wintertime--perhaps I remember too well when our boys suffered from ear infections.  Ditto for those who forget their mittens--check out the scarf with a built-in-hand warmer.  The rest of the ideas came easily.
And in the midst of the project I had two friends who had to face the winter with no hair as a result of chemo.  One of them reminded me how she felt like a "pinhead" in most caps.  You'll find the "Doubled Rib Cap" a good choice for someone suffering the same misfortune.
The yarns used are readily available worsted and bulky.  Many of the patterns will help you reduce your stash basket...others will give you opportunity to visit your favorite yarn shop.
