Sacque: Begin at neck. Cast on 94 sts on No 2 needles.
Row 1. Using yarn of contrasting color, place markers (M), knitting as follows: K 17, M, K 14, M, K 32, M, K 14, M, K 17.
Row 2. K inc one st each side of marker.
Row 3. K 10, M, p each st to within 10 sts of end, M, K 10.
Row 4. K 10, M, K, inc one st in st each side of seam M, end M, K 10.
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until you have 10, 24, 48, 66, 48, 24, 10, ending with Row 3. K 10, M K 1, * inc in next, k 2, repeat from *, end M, K 10. Purl back as for Row 3.
Slip stitches of fronts and back on holders and place sleeve sts on No 3 needles. Use 2 balls of yarn and knit both sleeves on same needle if you wish or work each separately.
Pattern. Row 1. K 1, * k 2, pick up yarn between sts of the row below, k 2, pass the picked up st over the k 2, repeat from *, end k 1.
Rows 2 and 4: Purl
Row 3: K 1, * pick up yarn between sts, k 2, pass picked up st over k 2, k 2, repeat from *, end k 1.
Work pattern on sleeve sts for 5 1/2 inches. Change to No 2 needles, k 2 tog across, and add 10 rows garter stitch. Bind off.
With No 3 needles, pick up body sts. Keep front borders in garter st, work pattern across front, pick up 2 extra sts at underarm, continue across back, inc 2 at underarm, work other front. Continue in pattern for 4 1/2 inches, add 1 1/2 inches garter st, and bind off.
Collar. Pick up 90 sts around neck on No 2 needles, k 1 row even. On the next row, k 10, k 2 tog to last 10, k 10.
Knit 4 rows even. Add as many rows garter st as desired, inc again across back if necessary and bind off.
Sew sleeve seams.
Crochet around all edges with ch 1 loosely, sl st snugly into next. Make ch loops for buttonholes and sew buttons in place.
Bonnet. Cast on 88 sts (No 3 needles), work garter st even for 1 1/2 inches to turn back for brim, change to No 2 needles and make 1/2 inch stockinette from right side of bonnet, end with p row. Make beading (to be hidden by brim), * k 2, yo, k 2 tog, repeat across, p back, change to No 3 needles and work pattern st for 4 1/2 inches, bind off 31 at beg of next row, pattern on 57, bind off 31 at beg of next row, pattern on 26 until back section measures same as bound off edges, k 2 tog across, p back, k 1 row even, place on holder. Sew back section to bound off edges, and turn brim to place. With No 2 needles, pick up and k 27 sts across brim and left front, k sts from holder, pick up and k 27 sts on right front, and work garter st for 3/4 inch. Bind off. Edge as for sacque, and insert ribbon in beading.
Bootee. Begin with sole. With No 2 needles, cast on 13 sts. Work in garter st for 6 rows, inc 1 st at each end of next row, work even on 15 sts for 22 rows, dec 1 st each end of row, k 1 row, dec again on next row, k 3 rows, inc 1 st at each end of next row, k 9 rows even, dec on next row, k 1 row, dec to 9 sts, k 1 row, bind off.
Starting at center of bound off row (heel), pick up and knit 73 sts around edge of sole. Divide sts on 3 needles, 31, 11, 31. Work on all needles in garter st for 15 rows. K 18, bind off 13, k 11 on center needle for 15 rows. Break yarn. Fasten yarn at beg of next needle, bind off 13, k 18. Using 1 needle, k 18, k 11 from center needle, inc 1 st in 5th st on needle, k 18. P 1 row.
Make beading. * k 2, yo, k 2 tog, repeat across. P 1 row. Change to No 3 needles, and work pattern for 1 1/2 inches, add 10 rows, garter st, bind off. Sew back seam, edge as for sacque, and insert ribbon ties.
