Crocheted Baby Dress No. 1233

Materials:  6 balls D M C Pearl,  Steel crochet hook # 9.

Gauge:  Chain 11 = 1 inch

Abbreviations:

st---stitch dc---double crochet sc---single crochet
sk---skip ch---chain *  *---repeat between
sl st--slip stitch tog--together tr--treble crochet

Yoke:  Row 1.  Ch 148, dc in sixth st from hook, ch 1, sk 1, dc in next to complete 10 squares or meshes, (ch 3, dc in same st as last dc--corner made), 15 meshes, corner, 20 meshes, corner, 15 meshes, corner, 10 meshes.  Ch 3, turn at end of each row of yoke.

Row 2.  Dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, etc., to corner, make corner as before in center st of ch 3, and continue around in same pattern

Repeat row 2 12 times.

Body.  Row 1.  Ch 5, sk 2 sts, 3 tr in next, ch 2, sk 2, 3 tr in next, repeat across first half of yoke, make a 3 tr group at underarm by inserting hook through center st of both front and back corners of yoke at same time, continue in pattern across front, join other 2 corners of yoke in same way, continue across other half of back, ending 1 tr in last st, ch 2, turn.

Row 2.  * Sc in first tr of next group, ch 3, sc in third dr of same group, ch 2 *, repeat * to * around ending ch 2, sc in third st of ch 5, ch 4, turn.

Row 3.  2 tr in base of ch 5, * ch 2, 3 tr under next ch 2 *, repeat * to * across.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 twice.

On last row, join work tog at center back (placket opening) and continue in pattern (rows 2 and 3) until dress measures about 8 inches below yoke, turning work for each row to keep pattern uniform, ending with row 2.  Fasten off.

Sleeve.  Join thread at underarm, ch 4, 2 tr in base of ch, ch 2, sk 2, 3 tr in next, follow this pattern around, joining last ch 2 to top of ch 4, ch 2, turn.

Follow row 2 of body for next row, and repeat these 2 rows until you have 8 or 9 rows of tr.  Fasten off.  Run ribbons in last row of sleeve and draw to shape as desired.

Trim neckline and edge of yoke as follows:  Begin at back on left side of yoke at neck.  Join thread in lower right corner of mesh, work * sc, ch 2, sc, ch 2 * around first dc, repeat * to * under ch 1 across top of mesh, repeat again down next dc, repeat again across lower side of next mesh, and repeat from first star as often as needed to finish neck trim.  Fasten off.

Join thread in same manner for lower edge of yoke, and follow same procedure.

Sew snap fasteners at back for closing.
