Crocheted Baby Set No. 1182

Original Design by Alice Fowler, 10 1/2 E Pikes Peak Ave, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Materials:  Four 1-ounce balls Bear Brand  Pompadour.  One ball Bucilla Crochelle for edges.  Bone Hook #2.

Gauge:  Chain 10 = 1 inch

Abbreviations:

Sacque:

Row 1.  Ch 83, dc in fourth st from hook, and in each st across.

Row 2.  Dc across, inc 1 st in every third st.

Row 3.  Dc even.

Row 4.  Dc in 5, 5 dc in next, turn work to back, sl st between first dc in group and dc just preceding it to make a popcorn st (pc), turn work back to right side, * dc in 4, pc in next *, repeat across, ending 5 dc at opposite side of yoke.

Row 5.  Dc in each dc, and 2 dc in top of each pc.

Row 6.  Inc in every 4th st.

Row 7.  Dc even.

Row 8.  Same as Row 4.

Row 9.  Same as Row 5

Row 10.  Inc in every 5th st.

Row 11.  Dc even

Row 12.  Ch 4, dc in base of ch, * sk 1 dc, (dc, ch 1, dc) (V made) in next *, repeat around.

Row 13.  Join separate yarn between 16th and 17th V's, ch 9, sk 25 V's, join between V's.  Do this for each armhole.

Work with main yarn in V's only---V in first, shell (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next, * V in each of next 3, shell in next *, repeat to chain, work V in first st of ch, sk 1, shell in next, (sk 1, V in next ) 3 times.  Continue around, reversing pattern for second armhole.

Row 14.  V in V, * shell in shell, V in V, 2 pc in next V, V in V *, repeat.

Row 15.  * V in V, shell in shell, V in V, pc between 2 pc (turn work opposite way for this pc, as it is made from back of work) *, repeat between *'s.

Row 16.  * V in V, shell in shell, V in V, shell in pc *, repeat.

Rows 17, 18, 19.  V in each V, shell in each shell.

Row 20.  * V in V, 2 pc in shell, V in V, shell in shell *, repeat across.

Row 21.  * V in V, pc between 2 pc, V in V, shell in shell *, repeat across.

Rows 22, 23, 24, 25.  Same as Rows 16-19.

Row 26.  Same as 14, except work 2 pc in shell instead of V.  (It will fall in the same vertical row.)

Continue in pattern until work measures 6 1/2 inches from yoke.  Fasten off.

Sleeve.  Join yarn at center of underarm ch, make 1 V on ch, then 2 V's, shell, 3 V's, shell, etc., around ending 1 v on ch, join to top of ch 3.  Now work in pattern until sleeve measures 6 1/2 inches.

Cuff.  Make 30 sc evenly spaced around lower edge of sleeve, making 1 4row dc even, 1 row * dc in each of 2, pc in next *, repeat around.  Make 1 more row dc even.  Fasten off.

Bonnet.  Row 1.  Ch 4, join in ring, ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join (12 dc with 3-ch).

Row 2.  Ch 3, 2 dc in each dc, dc in same st as ch 3, (24 dc).

Row 3.  Ch 3, pc in same st, * 2 dc in next, 1 dc in next, 2 dc in next, pc in next *, repeat * to *, join.

Row 4.  Ch 3, dc in next, inc in next and in every third st.

Row 5.  Ch 3, dc in each of 2, inc in next and in every 4th st.

Row 6.  Ch 3, dc in each of 3, inc in next and in every 5th st.

Row 7.  Ch 3, pc in same st, * dc in each of 3, 2 dc in next, dc in next, pc in next *, repeat around.

Row 8.  Ch 3, dc in each of 4, inc in next and in every 7th st.

Row 9.  Ch 3, dc in each of 5, inc in next and in every 8th st (108 sts).

Row 10.  Dc in every st.

Row 11.  Ch 4, dc in base of ch, * sk 2 dc, V in next *, repeat around (36 V's).

Row 12.  * V in next V, shell in next V *, repeat over 31 V's, turn.

Row 13.  V in each V, shell in each shell.

Row 14 and succeeding rows.  Same pattern for sacque beginning with Row 14.  Continue in pattern as for sacque until work measures 5 1/2 inches from center back.  Make 1 row * dc in each of 2 dc, pc in next dc * (sk all ch 1's) repeat across.

Sc around lower edge of bonnet, drawing to shape by skipping st now and then.  Fasten off.

Edge sacque and bonnet with Bucilla Crochelle, * ch 3, dc in same st, sk 1, sc in next *, repeat.
