Crocheted Baby Set No. 1179

Materials:  Bear Brand Wonderized Babyfair or Bear Brand Nylon Pompadour---4 one-ounce balls

 1 ball Bucilla Crochelle for edges.  Bone Crochet Hook No. 2.

Gauge:  Chain 10 = 1 inch

Abbreviations:

Sacque.  Row 1.  Ch 90, yo, draw up lp in fourth st of ch, yo, draw up lp in next st, yo, through 5, ch 1 (cluster made), 7 cl in next 14 sts, (dc, ch 1, cl, dc, ch 1) in next st, (corner), 5 cl in next 10 sts, corner, 15 cl, corner, 5 cl, corner, 8 cl, dc in last st of ch.  Ch 3, turn at end of each row.

Row 2.  YO, draw up lp in first sp, yo, draw up lp in next sp, yo, through 5, ch 1 (cl over cl), cl over each of next 7, cl over dc, (ch 1, dc, ch 1, cl over cl, dc in same space as last lp, ch 1) (corner)---continue around.

NOTE:  Each row will increase 1 cl on each half of front, 2 cl on shoulder, and 2 cl across back.

Make 7 more rows in the same manner.

Row 10.  17 cl, ch 5, sk to sp following second dc of next corner, cl on each cl across (31 cl), ch 5, sk to second dc of next corner, cl over dc, 16 more cl, dc in last st.

Row 11.  Cl over each cl, 2 cl on each ch 5 (69 cl).

Row 12.  Even, cl on cl.

Row 13.  16 cl, * dc in same sp as last lp, ch 1, cl on each of next 2 cl, ch 1*, repeat once, dc in same sp as last lp, ch 1, 29 cl, repeat * to * twice, dc in same sp as last lp, ch 1, end 16 cl, dc in last st.

Row 14.  Cl on each cl, and on each dc (75 cl).

Make 7 more rows, even, cl on cl.

Row 22. * 15 cl, dc in same sp as last lp *, repeat across.

Row 23.  * 2 dc in first sp, sk 1 cl, 18 cl, sk 1 cl, 2 dc in next sp, dc in dc *, repeat across.

Next 6 rows, increase number of dc's and decrease number of cl's in same manner.

Work 4 rows of dc even, sk last cl in each point (166 dc).  Fasten off.

Sleeve.  Row 1.  Join yarn in center of underarm ch, ch 3, sk 1 cl, cl in next 2 sp, cl in same sp and next sp, cl on cl around, following same plan as beginning of row, join to top of ch 3.

Row 2.  Ch 3, sk 1 cl, dc in next sp, sk 1 cl, cl on cl around, again following same plan as beginning of row, join.

Row 3.  Ch 3, cl on dc, cl on cl around (28 cl).  Work even until sleeve measures 6 inches.

Cuff.  Sc in dc and in eye of each cl, join (29 sc).  Make 2 rows dc even.  Fasten off.

Beading at neckline.  Join yarn at front edge, ch 4, dc in each sp with ch 1 between, except at corners, sk 2 cl and omit ch 1 to make corner lie flat.  Edge with Bucilla Crochelle:  * Sc in 4 sts, ch 3, sl st in top of last sc (picot made) *---repeat around entire sacque.

Cap.  Row 1.  Ch 4, join, ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join.  (12 dc with ch 3).

Row 2.  Ch 3, yo, draw up lp in top of first dc, * yo, draw up lp in next dc, yo, through 5 lps, ch 1, yo, draw up lp in same st as last lp *, repeat around, join (12 cl).

Row 3.  Ch 3, *cl on cl, dc and ch in sp *, repeat around, join.

Row 4.  Cl on each cl and on each dc, join (24 cl).

Row 5.  Ch 3, *cl over each of next 2 cl, dc, ch 1 in same sp as last cl *, repeat around.

Row 6.  Same as Row 4. (36 cl).

Row 7.  Cl on each of 3 cl, dc, ch 1 in same sp as last cl, etc around.

Row 8.  Same as 4 (48 cl).

Row 9.  Same as Row 7, except cl on 4 cl.

Row 10.  Same as 4 (60 cl).

Rows 11, 12, and 13.  Work even.

Row 14.  Sl st to center of sp between cl, ch 3, *cl over each of 8 cl, sk 1 cl, 2 dc in next sp, dc in dc, 2 dc in next sp *, repeat.

Rows 16, 17, and 18 same as Row 15, increasing number of dc's and decreasing number of cl's.

Row 19.  21 dc in each group, skipping 2 cl between pattern groups---(126 dc).

Work 4 rows dc even.  Fasten off.

Ear Flaps for Cap.  Row 1.  Join yarn in dc below lower point of cluster group, ch 3, dc in each of next 20 (21 with ch 3).  Ch 3, turn.

Rows 2 and 3.  Work dc even, ch 3, turn.

Row 4.  Work next 2 dc as 1 (yo, draw up lp in next dc, draw up lp in next dc---4 lps on hook---yo, through 3, yo, through 2), dc in each of next 15, 2 dc as 1, dc in last (19 dc) ch 3, turn.

Row 5.  Dc even

Row 6.  Same as 4 (17 dc).

Rows 7, 8, and 9.  Dc even

Rows 10, 11, and 12.  Same as 4.  End 11 dc.

Fasten off.  Sk 2 patterns, join yarn, and make other flap.

Visor.  Row 1.  Join yarn at front edge of right flap, with top of cap toward you.  Dc around the spoke of each of next 5 dc, inserting hook from front, dc in top of last dc (an increase), *dc around spoke of each of next 4, increase again *, repeat across, ending dc in each of next 5.  (51 dc).  Ch 3, turn.

Row 2.  Dec once at each end of row, dc in each dc across.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 3.  Dec twice, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next, dc in each of next 4, 2 dc in next, dc in each of next 5, 2 dc in next, dc in each of next 6, 2 dc in next, dc in next (center), reverse pattern for rest of row (54 dc).

Row 4.  Dec once at each end of row, dc across.  Fasten off.

Edge as for sacque.

Make cord of double yarn for ties on each flap, and across top of visor for trim.

Bootee.  Begin with sole.  Ch 20.

Row 1.  2 dc in fourth ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 15, 5 dc in next, 1 dc in each of 15 down opposite side of ch, 2 dc in last, join to top of 3 ch.

Row 2.  Ch 3, 2 dc in each of next 3, 1 dc in each of next 13, 2 dc in each of next 7, 1 dc in each of next 13, 2 dc in each of next 3, 1 dc in same st as 3 ch, join.

Row 3.  Ch 3, (1 dc in next, 2 dc in next) 3 times, 1 dc in each of next 14, (2 dc in next, 1 dc in next) 7 times, 1 dc in each of next 13, (2 dc in next, 1 dc in next) 3 times, 1 dc in same st as 3 ch, join.

Row 4.  Ch 3, 1 dc around the spoke of each dc, inserting hook from back, right to left, join (68 dc, counting 3 ch).

Rows 5 and 6.  Ch 3, dc in each dc, join.

Row 7.  Ch 3, yo, draw up lp in first dc, insert hook in next dc and draw up lp, yo, through 3, yo, through 2 (dec dc made), dc in each dc until last 2, make dec dc, join, and fasten off.  This is center back (66 dc).

Instep.  Row 1.  Beginning with first st to left of 3 ch in center back, count on left side of shoe to 27th st.  Join yarn in this st, and with toe of shoe toward you, draw lp in same st.  Retaining all lps on hook, draw up lp in each of next 12 (13 lps).  Work toe as follows:  yo, through 1, * yo, through 2 *, repeat across.  The lp left on hook is always first st of next row.

Row 2.  Insert hook under second vertical bar, draw up lp.  Retaining all lps on hook, draw up lp in each vertical bar except last.  Now insert hook through last vertical bar and st directly behind it and draw up lp (13 lps).  Work off as for Row 1.  Make 6 more rows in same manner.

Row 9.  Draw up lp under second vertical bar, yo, through 2 (sc made).  Repeat across, ending with 1 lp on hook.

Fasten instep in shoe as follows:  Catch remaining lp on hook into 15th st from center back on right side of shoe (do not count 3 ch) and with instep piece toward you, sc it st for st to right side of shoe, 2 sc at corner, sc across toe, inserting hook from right to left under each of the original 13 sts of instep, 2 sc at corner, sc instep and shoe together along left side, ending in 15th st from center back (do not count 3 ch).

Beading.  With toe of shoe facing you, ch 4, *sk 1, dc in next, ch 1 *, repeat across instep, ending in same 15th st where you began joining instep to shoe, ch 1, sk 1, dec dc in next 2 sts, ch 1, repeat * to * (above) 11 times, sk 1, dec dc in next 2, ch 1, join to third st of 4 ch (21 dc, counting 4 ch).  Make 21 clusters around.  Repeat for 6 rows.  Edge as for cap and sacque.
